About Dana
A native of Minersville, Pennsylvania, Dana Weiderhold began playing the violin at the age of seven at Woodhaven String Academy. Quickly finding her passion for music, she studied under Simon Maurer, Michael Jamanis, Sylvia Ahramjian, James Stern and Arnold Steinhardt. Dana received her Bachelor of Music from West Chester University in Pennsylvania and her Master of Music from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music.Dana most frequently performs as principal second violinist with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and as assistant concertmaster of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. She is concertmaster of the Anthracite Philharmonic and has performed as an orchestral musician with the Annapolis, Allentown, Pottstown, Chester County Pops, Kennett, and Delaware County Symphonies. In addition to her orchestral playing, Dana has appeared as guest artist and soloist with the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble, the West Chester University Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, and the Newark Symphony Orchestra. She will be a featured soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony this spring, performing a newly commissioned work composed by conductor, Julien Benichou. This piece has been written specifically for Dana and violinist colleague, Nicholas Currie. Ms. Weiderhold has concertized in Venezuela, Romania, and most recently, Carnegie Hall, and has appeared on WHYY, XPN, WRTI, WVIA, NBC, and QVC. She has collaborated with some of Philadelphia’s most popular singer/songwriters having appeared on Andrew Lipke’s “The Plague” and “Siddiqah” as first violinist of the Azrael String Quartet, expressing her interest in both classical and Indy Rock playing. She has also toured with “The Irish Tenors,” and the “Classical Mystery Tour,” a tribute to The Beatles, and performed with “IL Divo.”Ms. Weiderhold has been providing private instruction for students of all ages and levels for over ten years and has been a faculty member of the Darlington Fine Arts Center, The Music Centre, Blue Mountain Academy, and Olenka School of Music in Maryland. She has instructed young student group classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music in Lancaster and coaches at the Bear Crossing Chamber Music String Camp. Located in the heart of West Chester, Pennsylvania, dewStrings, the Academy is a true culmination of her passion for music. As dewStrings continues to grow, Ms. Weiderhold is always exploring ways to help her students positively impact the community.
